I knew pretty early on what I wanted to do for February. I remember distinctly as a kid, spending a whole day decorating old cereal and shoe boxes with scrap paper in red, pink, and purple. Scissors, glue, and scrap paper riddled our classroom tables or desks (and the floor). The energy was palpable. We would bring treats to class, one for every student and the teacher, and we would go around the class dropping our treats into everyone else’s decorated boxes. I daresay it’s the Halloween of the spring. It certainly felt like it.
I was going to wax poetic about how sweet a time (no pun intended) childhood is and the whole idea around saying nice things about your classmates is – but I think in this case, it’s better simply put. So, at the risk of sounding too soft, I think adults need more of that energy. That’s all.
Now, for the art piece! I started with the mailbox – I pulled a box out of my recycling (in typical fashion of course) and made the shape, then wrapped it in old craft paper. I put this step off for a while because I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but it was so much simpler than I expected it to be! Then I worked on the heart envelop. I’ll let it speak for itself : ) it’s not perfect, but it’s cute, and it’s sweet. In an ideal world, I would make a hundred of these (much smaller probably) and give them to loved ones as well as leave some around the city for strangers, but alas. I only had the resources for the one, which brings me to why I do this blog – I have this blog to make up for the fact that I can’t distribute hundreds of what I make, which is what I’d like to do. So, if you’re reading this, then this art piece is for you too : ) Also in the mailbox is some chocolate, some heart cutouts, and a valentines day letter I got in the mail from my friend who lives in Arizona! (thank you Ashley : )).
For consistency’s sake (and whimsy), the ice breaker question! What was your favorite candy to get as a kid? (Mine was Kit Kats!)
This month is going to be a little bit shorter, but that’s okay!
Thanks always, and much love.
xoxo, Lacey
